Painting with Words

Metaphors and similes are figures of speech used to make comparisons. They add color and depth to writing.

A simile compares two different things using the words "like" or "as". For example, "Her smile was as bright as the sun."

A metaphor makes a direct comparison by stating that one thing is another. For example, "The world is a stage."
