Plant vs. Animal Cells
Two Types of Eukaryotic Cells
While plant and animal cells have many organelles in common (like the nucleus, mitochondria, and cell membrane), there are a few key differences.
Plant cells have:
- A cell wall outside the cell membrane for structural support.
- Chloroplasts, where photosynthesis happens.
- A large central vacuole that stores water and maintains pressure.
Animal cells do not have these structures. Animal cells have smaller, more numerous vacuoles and lysosomes, which are less common in plant cells.
